Prof Murray: Retail is a tough business, so it is easy to make mistakes that destroy value

Professor Kyle B. Murray, key note speaker at Retail Summit 2016, will in his Prague presentation focus on the right retail value proposition. He plans to share key findings from extensive shopper research and interviews with leading retailers. Historically, retail competition has been about the environment and the products, but the future is about engaging customers - that will be the key message of his speech.

Kyle B. Murray, Professor of Marketing and the Director of the School of Retailing at the University of Alberta's School of Business, will give the key note speech at Retail Summit 2016 held in Prague in February next year. Prof Murray is an expert in human judgment and decision making and helps thus companies in better understanding of the choices that consumers make. He is an author of The Retail Value Proposition, the book based on more than a decade of research, including hundreds of hours of interviews with retailers. At its core, the book details a framework for crafting a compelling retail value proposition. It describes how leading retailers create attractive shopping environments, choose the right products and engage customers.

Prof Murray believes that historically, retail competition has been about the environment and the products, but the future is about engaging customers. His talk at the Retail Summit 2016 will therefore explore how today's retailers can enhance their value proposition to attract and engage more of the right customers. In that context, Prof Murray says: “Consumers are all too familiar with the ways in which retailers kill value. This can range from poor service to product stock-outs to the invasions of privacy that are becoming increasingly common in the era of big data. Retail is a tough and complicated business. It is easy to make mistakes that destroy what would otherwise be a compelling value proposition“. Having experience from Northern America, Australia and last but not least Europe, this key note speaker will definitively inspire the Retail Summit participants to avoid mistakes and improve their retail business.

Prof Murray´s speech is scheduled for the opening plenary session of Retail Summit 2016 which will be held in Prague Clarion Congress Centre in the morning of February 2. The line-up of speakers is just being finalized, so please stay tuned to further news. Detailed program will be published at the end of November but you can learn about program highlights already now from summit website www.retail21.cz/en.
