Retail Summit 2020 will advise how not to get lost in the jungle of the new retail ecosystem

Retail Summit 2020, to be held on February 3-5 2020, at Prague's Clarion Congress Hotel, will focus on how to succeed in the new retail ecosystem. The organizers of the Summit have just published its detailed program, which will present more than 120 top representatives of the brick and mortar retail as well as e-Commerce, experts and major suppliers of goods and technology.

Before our eyes, the relatively clear market of the recent past is changing. Thanks to new technologies, we see the shift towards a structure with many new distribution channels and unprecedented touchpoints between retailers, suppliers and consumers. The market starts to resemble a jungle, or, more specifically, a complex ecosystem.

It brings risk for the players unprepared to change, who might stop orienting themselves. On the other hand, there are many chances for those who are not afraid to look for new opportunities in the dynamically transforming ecosystem. Retail Summit 2020's ambition is to help all those who do business in the retail market to use the new retail ecosystem to their advantage.

New Retail trends

More than 120 domestic and foreign speakers will help with orientation in the new ecosystem. It will feature a number of top experts who will present major trends, formulating new retail.

Tomáš Prouza, President of the Czech Confederation of Commerce and Tourism will explain the terms "new retail" and ecosystem at the beginning of Retail Summit. The authors of the analysis series "Truth about Commerce" Harjot Singh and Rodney Collins of the McCann Worldgroup will inform us of the global development trends. Wijnand Jongen, chairman of the executive committee of Ecommerce Europe, will undoubtedly surprise the summit participants with his views. He recently published a book with the provocative title "The End of Online Shopping: the Future of Business in a Connected World", which very plastically describes the concept of "new retail."

The program will be also enriched by consumer analyses presented by research experts from Euromonitor, GfK and Nielsen. The strategic aspects of companies´ functioning in the new retail ecosystem will be highlighted from different perspectives by representatives of consulting firms Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte and EY. "New retail" is created mainly thanks to innovative technologies – Retail Summit 2020 therefore pays considerable attention to the latest technological solutions and their implementation in the overall digitization of commerce.  A number of companies, led by Microsoft and O2, will present their solutions. In addition to active participation in the program, they will demonstrate examples of revolutionary "live" innovations in their exhibition stands.

Internet and brick and mortar players together

Despite the attractiveness of these top expert performances, it is expected that the greatest interest will be – as usual – in the presentation of top managers of retailers and suppliers. Retail Summit 2020 has therefore invited a diverse variety of speakers from companies that are on the track to succeed in the new retail ecosystem.

Highly innovative players of E-Commerce such as Tomáš Havryluk (ALZA), Tomáš Čupr (Rohlík), Pavel Milan Černý (Econea), Igor Matejov (Mall Group), Michal Hanáček (Pilulka) or Lukáš Havlásek (Shopsys) will present their achievements and views. However, several representatives of brick and mortar chains will also prove that they can maintain or even strengthen their positions in the new retail ecosystem, a/o  Kateřina Harris a Petr Pavlík (Albert), Alena Střížová (dm drogerie markt), Luboš Korbelář (Dr.Max), Petr Chmelař (Globus), Miloslav Hlavsa (Konzum Ústí nad Orlicí), Olivier Langlet (Makro Cash and Carry) or Patrik Dojčinovič (TESCO).

The contributions of two foreign guests representing retail companies, which at first glance may look like "traditional" ones, will also bring interesting learnings, as they can make full use of new market conditions and become very successful. The first one is an example of convenience stores boosted by new technologies – that will be the story of Tomasz Blicharski from the leadership team of Žabka Polska chain. Fred Bosch, head of COOP Supermarkten Nederland, then explains how the "old" consumer cooperative has been revived to cope with conditions of the highly developed market.

Manufacturers, especially the brand ones, will definitely play a very important role in the ecosystem of the future, too. Some of them will present their vision at Retail Summit 2020, such as Jannis Samaras (Kofola), Drahomíra Mandíková (Asahi Central Europe), Michaela Franeková (Unilever), Roman Trzaskalik (Plzeňský Prazdroj) or Tomáš Hejkal (Stock). Smaller, independent suppliers have their role in the program as well – see e.g. Martin Dokoupil from Tierra Verde or Kateřina Urbánková from association of eco-farmers PRO-BIO.
